Prospective officials must be at turning the age of 14 in the season's calendar year (2009 birth year or earlier). They must then attend a certification clinic run by the Ontario Lacrosse Association before being able to step on the floor.
MBLA officials start by learning from experienced officials in our house league system. Here they learn the fundamentals of officiating and begin their development into well-rounded officials. Those who show clear dedication and competency may then be chosen to referee at the representative level.

Before taking the officiating course, timekeeping is a great spot to start as a means to learn the officiating side of the game. Regardless of playing experience, the officials seat is completely different than that of a player. Get started as a time keeper in preparation for moving into a full fledged official.
